Hailing from a small remote village in the Serengeti catchment in Northern Tanzania, Encircle East Africa’s CEO Sianga had an idyllic Maasai upbringing where spotting the “big five” to the tiniest birdlife across the plains was part of daily life.

Gaining early work as a local guide with safari companies visiting his village, Sianga realised his passion for sharing his home with travellers. Leaving his village to study English and tourism in Arusha, Sianga became a qualified tour guide. He soon became immersed in providing customised safari and cultural tourism experiences to travellers and volunteers, and making possible published, world-class research projects with students from Stanford and Harvard Universities.

After meeting his Australian wife, Melanie, he travelled to Australia and has lived between the two countries since. In Australia, Sianga has worked in five-star hotels and at a world-class museum as a guide, customer service has been his passion.

With international experience and diploma-level qualifications in business, marketing, and tourism, Sianga is a living, authentic bridge across cultures. He developed Encircle East Africa so that you can have the best quality safari and cultural experiences in his homeland.

Growing up in Australia, from a young age Melanie dreamed of meeting people in other lands, experiencing their cultures and immersing herself in a different life.

At the age of 18, Melanie took the opportunity to spend a year in South Africa as an exchange student, living and travelling with local families. After a short jaunt to Swaziland, she vowed she would return to experience more of Africa.

At university Melanie continued her line of interest, studying International Business and Asia Pacific Studies. After university she went to live in the mountains of Japan to teach English. On return, she became an ESL teacher, connecting with students from all over the world.

Yet the call of Africa continued for Melanie, and several years later she returned as a traveller and volunteer in a Maasai community in Tanzania. Her six-month trip turned into over 18 months of a life living with local Tanzanians and falling in love with Encircle East Africa’s CEO Sianga.

Today, Melanie supports Encircle East Africa as a cultural specialist, specialising in itineraries that offer people the unique opportunity to experience local culture and connect with local communities and people.
