Summit to Savannah

Discover the heart of Maasai country on this unforgettable 4-day journey combining the adventure of climbing Mount Longido with an authentic Maasai cultural experience at Sidai Savannah View Camp.

Your journey begins with an overnight trek on Mount Longido, guided by experienced local Maasai guides. After descending the mountain, continue directly into the savannah lands of Kiserian, where you will spend two nights at our Maasai-owned community camp.

Walk alongside Maasai warriors, look for wildlife on foot, learn about medicinal plants and traditional knowledge, visit local families, share meals around the fire and experience everyday life within a remote Maasai community.

This is not simply a mountain trek or a village visit. It is one complete journey from the summit of Longido Mountain into the living landscape and culture of the Maasai people.

Travel That Supports Maasai Employment

This experience is designed and operated as community-based tourism. By travelling with us, you directly support paid employment for young Maasai guides, mountain crews, cooks, camp staff, drivers, cultural hosts and local food suppliers.

Our approach is not based only on making a donation after a trip. The experience itself creates work and helps tourism income remain within Maasai country.

Depart Arusha early in the morning and travel north to Longido, a small Maasai town situated beneath Mount Longido.

After meeting your local trekking team, begin your ascent through dry savannah, natural forest and mountain terrain. Accompanied by experienced local Maasai guides, you will learn about the area's environment, plants, wildlife and cultural significance.

The mountain rises above the surrounding plains and offers beautiful views across Maasai country. On a clear day, distant mountain ranges and Mount Kilimanjaro may be visible.

In the evening, enjoy a freshly prepared meal and spend the night camping on Mount Longido beneath the stars.

Overnight: Longido Mountain Camp

Wake in the peaceful mountain environment and enjoy breakfast before continuing the trek and beginning your descent.

After arriving back in Longido, a private vehicle will transfer you through Maasai country to Sidai Savannah View Camp near Kiserian.

After the physical challenge of the mountain, settle into camp, rest and begin experiencing the slower rhythm of village life.

In the evening, gather around the fire for a traditional Maasai-style goat barbecue. Share food, conversation and stories with your hosts beneath the African night sky.

Overnight: Sidai Savannah View Camp

Spend a full day exploring the savannah and community surrounding Sidai Savannah View Camp.

Unlike a conventional safari conducted from a vehicle, this experience allows you to discover the landscape slowly and quietly on foot.

Local Maasai warriors and guides will accompany you through the surrounding hills and plains, sharing knowledge about animal tracks, medicinal plants, trees, traditional tools and the relationship between Maasai people, livestock and wildlife.

Depending on the season and natural movement of animals, you may encounter giraffe, zebra, impala, gerenuk, other gazelles, smaller wildlife and a wide variety of birds.

Activities may also include walking to local water pools, visiting nearby families, observing village life, learning about traditional food and medicine, spending time with Maasai elders and warriors, or visiting a local preschool when appropriate.

Experiences are flexible and shaped by the community, season and daily life taking place during your visit.

Overnight: Sidai Savannah View Camp

Enjoy a relaxed final morning in Maasai land.

Depending on timing and interest, you may take a short sunrise walk, visit nearby families, spend time around camp or simply enjoy the stillness of the surrounding landscape.

After breakfast, begin the return journey to Arusha.

You leave with more than memories of climbing a mountain. You leave with a deeper understanding of the people, wildlife and living culture of Maasai country.
